NAMING CEREMONIES

The arrival of a child in our family and among our friends and community is a significant milestone in our lives.
A naming/welcoming ceremony is the perfect way to celebrate.  You might also want to include older children or adults who didn’t have a ceremony when they were very young, or who have just joined your family.

Penny will be delighted to help you arrange your ceremony, which will be tailored to the way you want.  You may choose to hire a public venue or hold it at home.  We can decide if you want a formal or informal ceremony.  You will be given choices of readings and poetry if you want it, and Penny will help you to think about the pledges you want to make.

You can chat with Penny about the role of guide parents and grandparents and what involvement they may want to have in the ceremony.  There are symbolic gestures to choose from, e.g. keepsakes of the day, drinking from a quaich, planting a tree, lighting a candle, and many more.  Penny can help you decide how these might fit with the occasion you have in mind.

I will have a planning meeting with you, when I would very much hope to meet the person being named in order to include their personality in the ceremony.  After that, I will be available by whichever method you prefer – email, phone, Skype/FaceTime, text – until the day of the ceremony.

I look forward to working with you and your family to create a memorable occasion!
